The majority of Wensum Farmers take part in the annual Big Farmland Bird Count hosted by the BTO, so to tie in with this national initiative, we ran an internal competition to monitor the status of some of our rarer farmland birds.

The group were challenged to count the red listed birds on their holdings and submit the highest flock numbers of those spotted.

We wanted to find out if our set aside land was making a difference where it really mattered and were delighted to discover it really is!

Swanton Morley Farms came out as the clear winners with 600 lapwings and 530 linnets spotted in a patch of AB9.

Given that this competition was also designed as some internal group fun, they received a unique Wensum Farmers branded mug each, with one of them even being covered in glitter…
