No, I haven’t made either of these words up. Despite sounding like a fairy-tale villain, these terms both refer to ways of ensuring you are managing your soil to the best of your ability given its conditions.
Goop is an exciting product launched by Daniel Tyrkiel, Director of the Soil Ecology Lab. He spoke to the Wensum Farmers about having measurable outputs for soil improvement, such as an increase in yield. There are various ways this could be achieved and examples were given, along with a hands on demonstration of how to create the compost extract. (Ignoring the slight hiccough of the electronic mega mixer malfunctioning)
You can find out in much more detail, what on earth Goop is here: Compost Extract (and Goop) talk at Wensum Farmers Oct 2025

Paludiculture: The practice of growing crops suited to wetland conditions, particularly on peatlands. A thank you to Nathan from Norfolk FWAG for introducing us to this concept. Nathan spoke to the group about possible funding streams open to those on the riparian land neighbouring the river. There was also some chat around the upcoming launch of the Norfolk Nature Recovery Strategy and what it might mean for the individuals, and also the group.

A huge thank you to both our speakers at this event, and to Fakenham Racecourse for hosting.
