Last week, members of the Wensum Farmers cluster spent an inspiring morning at the Wendling Beck Project in Norfolk. As long-standing partners and valued members of our cluster, the Wendling Beck team welcomed us for a firsthand look at their pioneering work in engineered landscape-scale nature recovery.
The day began indoors with a presentation outlining the project’s ambitious vision: restoring nature at scale through carefully engineered interventions that work with the landscape rather than against it. We then headed outside for a site tour, travelling in the project’s distinctive green Land Rovers across restored grassland, newly planted areas, and the wider farmed landscape under clear autumn skies.
What stood out was the practical, collaborative approach. The Wendling Beck team are demonstrating how large-scale habitat creation, hydrological restoration, and thoughtful land management can deliver measurable gains for biodiversity while remaining rooted in the realities of working farmland. Many of our members left describing the morning as both informative and genuinely inspirational — a powerful reminder of what is possible when farmers, landowners and conservationists work together with shared purpose.
Wensum Farmers has always valued strong relationships with forward-thinking projects like Wendling Beck. Their membership of our cluster strengthens the knowledge exchange that sits at the heart of what we do. Seeing the results of their engineered restoration up close has given us fresh ideas and renewed energy to take back to our own holdings across the Wensum catchment.
We are grateful to the entire Wendling Beck team for hosting us so generously and for continuing to push the boundaries of what landscape recovery can achieve. Days like this reinforce why collaboration remains one of our greatest strengths.
